Announcement
Paris 2024 Olympic Games Qualification
Congratulations to all those Member Associations whose players have qualified to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Qualification period was from 1 May 2023 to 28 April 2024. For a full explanation of how quota places are allocated, please see Section 5.4.1.1. – Olympic Games Paris 2024 Qualifying Regulations – link here.
- Confirmation of Qualified Players – Deadline to Confirm – Friday 24 May 2024
Please find the list of qualified players / invitations for each event – 1) men’s singles, 2) women’s singles, 3) men’s doubles, 4) women’s doubles, and 5) mixed doubles.
Member Associations with qualified players are advised to contact their NOC and then confirm with BWF their selection of qualified players /pairs.
The deadline to inform BWF of the acceptance of the invitation is:
- FRIDAY 24 May 2024 23.59 hours, BWF headquarters Time (+8 hours GMT).
Please send confirmations to Fern Gilders – Head of Tournament Development – [email protected]
Should you fail to confirm your selection of qualified players/pairs before the deadline date of 24 May 2024 23.59 hours, BWF headquarters time (+8 hours GMT), the relevant Olympic Qualifying Regulations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games shall be applied relating to reallocation of unused quota places.
- Reallocation of Unused Quota Places
If an allocated Quota Place is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota place deadline (24 May 2024) or is declined by the NOC, the Quota Place will be reallocated to the next best ranked qualified player/pair according to the Race to Paris Ranking Lists of 30 April 2024 (except for those pertaining to Continental Representation Places where the next eligible Continental Representation places will apply).
This process will be repeated in different phases until the Quota Places have been filled for each event and gender and the confirmation deadlines for the reallocation phases will be decided by BWF in its sole discretion.
If an NOC declines an athlete/pairs quota place in the first allocation phase, and then accepts a quota place for a lower ranked eligible athlete/pair in the reallocation phase, it will not be possible to enter the first athlete/pair at the time of final entries, should the lower ranked pair become unavailable.
Please find below an explanation of how to interpret the qualification lists attached.
Men’s Singles
- 35 quota places are allocated first.
- All five continents must be represented within the first 35 places. There shall be at least two athletes from each of the five Continental Confederations provided the ranking of the player is 250 or above.
- Positions shown in green are reserved for players qualifying via invitation from the IOC Tripartite Commission (Universality places) – shown as quota positions 36 and 37.
- There is no host quota place used on this occasion as the host has an athlete ‘qualified by right’. This place is therefore added to the qualification list – shown as quota place 38.
- The top 16 qualifying places are marked in light blue as NOCs may qualify a maximum of two players if they are both in the top 16. Where an NOC has a third athlete in the top 16, the allocation position is marked in purple.
- Players/pairs marked in dark blue are those receiving ‘Continental Representation Qualification’ places. Those marked in yellow denote ‘Continental positions – Qualified by right’.
- Positions shown in pink are additional places added to men’s singles due to male players qualifying in two events. The offer of these places is conditional on the continuing participation of the players qualifying in two events. If their place is declined or the player becomes unavailable, (due to injury, illness, etc.) and the player next in line is not in two events, then the place in singles will no longer be available. Places may be reallocated until 5th July 2024.
- Positions shown which include a red box with black cross hatching denote players who are potentially ‘next in line’ in future phases.
Women’s Singles
- 35 quota places are allocated first.
- All five continents must be represented within the first 35 places. There shall be at least two athletes from each of the five Continental Confederations provided the ranking of the player is 250 or above.
- Positions shown in green are reserved for players qualifying via invitation from the IOC Tripartite Commission (Universality places) – shown as quota positions 36. In this case, only 1 Universality place has been allocated out of a possible 2, meaning that there is an extra reallocation slot (Universality 37 in the list).
- There is no host quota place used on this occasion as the host has an athlete ‘qualified by right’. This place is added to the qualification list – shown as quota place 38.
- Positions shown which include a red box with black cross hatching denote players who are potentially ‘next in line’ in future phases.
- One additional quota position is allocated to the IOC Refugee Team.
Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles
- Positions 1 – 8 are marked in light blue as NOCs may qualify two pairs if they are in the top 8 of the World Rankings. Where an NOC has a third athlete in the top 8, the allocation position is marked in purple. There shall be at least one pair from each of the five Continental Confederations provided the ranking of the pair is 50 or above.
- Players/pairs marked in dark blue are those receiving ‘Continental Representation Qualification’ places. Those marked in yellow denote ‘Continental positions – Qualified by right’.
- Pairs shown which include a red box with black cross hatching denote players who are potentially ‘next in line’ in future phases.
NOCs may only qualify a maximum of two players/pairs via Continental qualification places.
