Regulations

BWF has regulations to protect the sport against doping, match manipulation, match fixing, illegal betting and corrupt behaviour in the sport.

It is the responsibility of athletes, support personnel and administrators to know the regulations and the consequences if they breach the regulations.

 

BWF Statutes – Chapter 2 – Ethics

Chapter 2 Ethics, contains the most important rules for athletes, support personnel, technical officials and administrators in the sport related to anti-doping, anti-match fixing / match manipulations and ethics. The main regulations in this section are:

Anti-Doping Regulations

The BWF Anti-Doping Regulations (effective 1 January 2021) comply with the World Anti-Doping Code (2021). This Code brings all sports into line under the one common set of rules and international standards.

The BWF Anti-Doping Regulations apply to:

  • The BWF;
  • Each Member Association – and their member clubs and associations;
  • Each player or support personnel (coaches / trainers) in badminton;
  • Administrators, technical officials and all personnel participating in BWF sanctioned tournaments.

 

Under the BWF Anti-Doping Regulations, each player is responsible for what they eat, drink or consume. Players (badminton / Para badminton) are also responsible for any medications and any food supplements they take.

The BWF has a testing programme – both “in-competition” and “out-of-competition” to monitor players. Players can be tested anywhere, anytime without notice.

There are severe consequences for players if a prohibited substance is reported in the sample they provide.

 

Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions

This Code of Conduct focuses on corrupt behaviour related to betting on badminton, best efforts, sharing and using ‘inside information’, offering, soliciting or accepting anything of value to alter the outcome of a match or part of a match. Each player, support personnel, staff of the BWF and Continental Confederations, technical officials and anyone participating, working, volunteering at a BWF sanctioned event is covered under these regulations.

There are severe consequences for people involved in unethical and corrupt behaviour related to the integrity of matches and competitions.
