Tournament Doctors
Role of the BWF Tournament Doctor:
The BWF Tournament Doctor provides on-court medical care and advice to players at BWF Major Championships, and, together with the referee, ensures that the players are provided adequate, safe, and appropriate medical facilities and care at each BWF Major Championships.
BWF Tournament Doctor Assignments:
The BWF appoints BWF Tournament Doctors for the following:
- Olympic Games
- Youth Olympic Games
- Paralympic Games
- BWF World Championships
- Para Badminton World Championships
- Thomas Cup Finals (BWF World Men’s Team Championships)
- Uber Cup Finals (BWF World Women’s Team Championships)
- Sudirman Cup Finals (BWF World Team Championships)
- Suhandinata Cup (BWF World Junior Team Championships)
- Eye Level Cups (BWF World Junior Championships)
- BWF World Senior Championships
The host country appoints tournament doctors for Grade 2 (BWF World Tour) and for Grade 3 (Continental Level tournaments: International Challenge, International Series and Future Series).
BWF appoints referees to other multi-sport games upon request by the host organiser.
BWF Tournament Doctor Training and Assessment
Led by the BWF Tournament Doctor Commission, BWF recruits, trains, and appraises tournament doctors to meet the standard required to be a BWF Tournament Doctor.
